Joseph “Joe” Brett Wilson, 86, of Clintonville, WV, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV.
He was born January 4, 1930, in Columbus, OH, the son of Willard Brett and Elizabeth Jane Tanner Wilson.
Joe worked for his family business and drove for Johnson Trucking before going into the military. In August 1951, he became an active member of the U.S. Air Force, serving as an aircraft mechanic for one year until being honorably discharged in December 1952 due to his father’s health. He later worked 26 years for the West Virginia Department of Transportation, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Grace Bible Church at Asbury, WV. Joe married Rita Holcomb on March 19, 1953.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Irene Tuckwiller, Edna “Honey” Griffith, and Louise Lewis; and brothers, Owen Wilson and Raymond Wilson.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rita Wilson; daughters, Mary Jo Cook (Roger) and Michelle Mann; son, Stephen Wilson (Catherine); grandchildren, Stephen Wilson Jr., Jeremy Wilson, Travis Cook, and Dustin Cooke; great-grandchildren, Tyler Wilson, Ethan and Emma Wilson, and Riyah Cooke.
A memorial service is slated for 2 PM on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Grace Bible Church in Asbury with Pastor Don Smith officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of the service on Sunday at the church.
At his request, Joe’s body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joe’s memory to the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901, or Grace Bible Church, 11483 Alta Drive, Asbury, WV 24916.
