Eloiria “Sylvia” Shafer, 91, of Muddy Creek Mountain, Lewisburg, WV, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016, at her home.
She was born July 24, 1924, at Muddy Creek Mountain, a daughter of William Wallace and Nancy McCutcheon Quick. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Sylvia was a member of Zion’s Light Baptist Church and was a member of AARP. She was a retired secretary with Greenbrier Valley Hospital in Ronceverte, WV, and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ovid Shafer; sisters, Blanche O’Dell, Mary Sampson, Amy Rutherford, and Lula Donovan; and brothers, Walter Quick and Charles Quick.
Mrs. Shafer is survived by a daughter, Martha Dodson and husband, Dennis, of Forest, VA; a son, Montie Shafer and wife, Emilie, of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Shafer Anderson (Tim), Andrea Lee Shafer Morgan (Derrick), and Erica Ann Dodson; great-grandchildren, Conley Morgan and Kymberlyn Morgan; step-great-grandchildren, Ava Anderson and Hayden Anderson; a devoted niece, Nancy Quick of Lewisburg; and caregivers, Melinda Moody, Janie Rutherford, and Louise Moody.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 PM on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Zion’s Light Baptist Church of Ronceverte, WV, with Pastor Gary Baker officiating. Burial followed in the McLean Cemetery at Ronceverte.
Friends called from 1-2 PM on Sunday at the church.
