Basil Leon Whited, 86, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away early Thursday morning, February 4, 2016, at his residence.
Born December 8, 1929, in Webster County, WV, he was a son of Basil Ray and Nelva Doris Robinson Whited.
Leon was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs and was a Korean War veteran. He also was a charter member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department and Rescue Squad, of which he helped to start in 1959. He was also a member of Beaver Lick Hunting Club at Little Creek.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Stan and Dale Whited; and two brothers, Red and Richard Whited.
Surviving are his loving wife, Rebecca, at home; three sons, Mike Whited (Rose) of White Sulphur Springs, Alan Whited (Angie) of Ronceverte, WV, and Steve Whited (Shari) of Frankford, WV; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his loving dog, Jake; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2016, at Mapledale Cemetery on Route 92, White Sulphur Springs, with the Rev. Shari Stilgenbauer officiating.
Visitation will be from 1-3 PM at the Shanklin Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care Inc., 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901, and the Emmanuel United Methodist Church building fund.
