Emery L. Anderson, 91, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, died Friday, January 15, 2016, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, WV, after a brief illness.
Born November 29, 1924, at Spice, WV, in Pocahontas County, he was a son of Emery Ernest and Prudie Susan McCoy Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was a very active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a 1942 graduate of Marlinton High School in Marlinton, WV, and a graduate of Davis and Elkins College in 1949. After graduating and serving his country, he was a coach and taught at Marlinton High School and Davis High School. He then taught and became principal at Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, WV, and then later became principal at White Sulphur High School and White Sulphur Jr. High School for 24 years before retiring in 1985. Mr. Anderson was a member of the American Legion and Retired Teachers Association.
Preceding him in death, other than his parents, was his loving wife of 61 years, Rosetta “Rose” White Anderson in 2014; one son, Walter Lake Anderson in 2015; three brothers, Marvin, Melvin, and Clyde Anderson; and two sisters, Olive Schneider and Lucille Dinwiddie.
Surviving are three sons, Rodney Carl Anderson and Randy Dirk Anderson of White Sulphur Springs and Brian Matthew Anderson (Lori Lobban Anderson) of Houston, TX; and four grandchildren, Jordan, Mallori, Levi, and Alec Anderson, all of whom were the apple of his eye.
A visitation was held at the Shanklin Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs on Sunday, January 17, 2016, from 4-6 PM.
His funeral service was held Monday, January 18, at 11 AM at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs with Pastor Shari Stilgenbauer officiating. Burial followed in the Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton.
