James “Jim” Edward Tate of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Lewisburg, WV, passed on to our heavenly Father on Monday, July 20, 2015.
He was born September 19, 1939, in Charleston, WV.
Jim was a retired right-of-way agent with the West Virginia Division of Highways. He proudly served seven years in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. He was a Mason, a member of the American Legion, and an active member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was also a master gardener and a handyman extraordinaire. His grandsons were his pride and joy, and he never knew a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Tate; mother, Janice Blake; and son-in-law, Jamie Honaker.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Karen; daughter and son-in-law, Danny and Sarah Dyess; grandsons, Jackson Honaker and Landon Dyess; brother, Gary Tate of Bordentown, NJ; sisters, Nancy Hodges and husband, Chuck, of Clifton Forge, VA, and Pat Bennett of Columbia, SC; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 2 PM at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Roanoke.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.
