Janis C. Crawford, 86, of Renick, WV, passed away Friday, December 12, 2104, at the White Sulphur Springs Center in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
Born June 14, 1928, at Richwood, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Susan Williams Chambers.
Janis attended schools at Williamsburg and Renick, WV, where she graduated from high school in 1946. She attended Covington Business School in Covington, VA. She was employed by the Industrial Rayon Plant and H. Phil Burks Contractor. She was a member of the Covington Credit Women’s Organization and volunteered and worked with the Betsy Suggert Foundation and the Cub Scouts.
She was a member of South Covington Methodist Church until 1999, where she served as Sunday School teacher, president of the United Women’s Organization, and was a dedicated choir member. After moving to Renick in 1999, Janis became a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, where she loyally supported and served the church as Sunday School teacher and choir member, various committees, and communion steward. She was active in the community of Renick, serving as treasurer of the Senior Group, as well as working the voting polls at the Renick Firehouse.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip H. Crawford; a sister, Jaline Chambers McGuire; and a brother, Gardner Chambers.
She is survived by a son, Steven M. Crawford and wife, Terrie Gumm Crawford, of Renick; five sisters, Virginia Hanna of Friars Hill, WV, Mary Heller of LaRue, TX, Gloria Kay Hunter of Jacksonville, FL, and Deanna Shafer and Karen Joan Shafer, both of Lewisburg, WV; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church in Renick with Phillip Hickman officiating. Interment will follow in Morningside Cemetery in Renick.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Monday, December 15, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
Keenan Renick, A.J. Workman, Dave Workman, Gene Kennedy, Gary Perkins, and Glen Diehl will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greenbrier Humane Society.
