Through a social media post, dated Friday, February 5, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department released their Monthly Activity Report for January 2021.

As indicated in the report, 860 total police-related 911 calls were received by the Fayette County 911 Communications Center, including 10 burglary complaints, 29 reports of domestic disturbances, 20 theft complaints and 38 calls regarding suspicious persons or circumstances. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department also performed 55 health and welfare checks, as well as responded to 15 miscellaneous disturbances.

Regarding motor vehicle and traffic-related matters, 323 traffic stops were conducted by the Sheriff’s Department, resulting in 31 citations being issued. In total, 55 motor vehicle accidents occurred during the month of January, including 25 with at least one-injury reported.

There were 249 civil documents process-served, 189 concealed weapon permits issued and 48 arrests performed by the department.

Among those arrested by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department in the month of January are Presley Cadle, 43, of Oak Hill and Elmer Evans II, 19, of Fayetteville. The two men were arrested on the evening of Sunday, January 3 after a routine traffic stop.

In a January 4 statement, Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley said, “The deputy (while on patrol in the Oak Hill area) conducted a traffic stop [ ] due to the driver being unlicensed. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a quantity of heroin and nearly $2,00 in cash.”

Cadle has been charged with driving while his license was revoked due to DUI, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Evans has been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and possession with intent to distribute narcotics. Both men are awaiting trial.

Demetran Gray, 42, of Oak Hill was arrested on the evening of Saturday, January 9, on charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute narcotics.

In a January 10 statement, Fridley said, “Last night Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence of Ellison Circle in Oak Hill in an effort to locate a wanted person. While on scene, evidence of drug sales was observed by the officers. A search was conducted after receiving consent from the homeowner.

The search yielded heroin, methamphetamines and firearms.”

Gray is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on a cash-bond or surety totaling $50,000. Gray is also being held without bail on a parole violation.

Amber Dawn Huddleston, 37, of Kimberly was arrested on Wednesday, January 27 on charges of trespassing, destruction of property, obstructing an officer, battery of an officer and attempting to disarm an officer.

In a statement released on Thursday, January 28, Fridley said, “Deputies responded to a residence in the Kimberly area regarding a disturbance. Deputies found a female on scene destroying property and refusing to leave. While attempting to subdue the female, she grabbed the deputy’s taser and attempted to take it from him. She was eventually secured and transported to jail to await arraignment.”

Huddleston is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on a cash-bond or surety of $15,000.

Angela and Joshua Elder, of Scarbro, were arrested on Thursday, January 28 for three counts of child neglect and ten counts of animal cruelty.

In a statement released shortly after their arrest, Fridley said, “On Thursday afternoon, [ ] deputies responded to a residence in the Scarbro area to conduct a check on a subject after concerning posts on social media were made. Deputies found conditions inside the home deplorable and intolerable. Living in the home with the two adults were three children and 10 pets.”

Angela and Joshua Elder have been released on bond and are awaiting trial.

Scotty Dewayne King, 41, and James Darren Gravely, 52, both of Charleston, were arrested on Sunday, January 31 on felony drug and firearm charges.

In a statement released on Monday, February 1, Fridley said, “A [ ] Deputy was on routine patrol over the weekend in the Falls View area. The Deputy conducted a stop on the vehicle for a traffic infraction. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a large quantity of heroin and methamphetamines, as well as a firearm.”

Both men have been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, prohibited persons in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute narcotics, and are currently incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail while awaiting trial. Both are being held without bail.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department wishes to remind the public that “all defendants are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. A criminal complaint is nothing more than a document that merely alleges a criminal charge.”

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department also asks that anyone with information regarding these incidents contacts their office at 304-574-3590, or through their Facebook page. Residents may also contact Crime Stoppers of West Virginia at 304-255-STOP.
