Two Greenbrier County residents were arrested on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 15. Avery Demond Lewis, 46, of Dale Hollow Lane in Frankford and Christina Marie Perkins, 35, of Main Street in White Sulphur Springs have both been charged with destruction of property and possession of a controlled substance.
Perkins has also been charged with a second count of possession of a controlled substance and fleeing with reckless indifference. Lewis has also been charged with trespassing, assault and burglary. Both are currently being held in Southern Regional Jail. Perkins bond has been set at $15,000 cash or surety, while Lewis’ bond has been set at $27,000 cash or surety.
According to the criminal complaint, Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling the area of the Cedar Knoll Trailer Park in response to an Alderson burglary complaint. Deputies were looking specifically for Lewis, as there were witnesses to Lewis’ alleged residential break-in on Muddy Creek Mountain. Witnesses claim to have also observed Lewis leaving the area in a Chevy Malibu driven by Perkins.
The complaint states that, while sitting in their patrol car near the entrance to Cedar Knoll, deputies noticed a vehicle matching the description of the one driven by Perkins traveling north towards Lewisburg on Route 219. Deputies stated that the vehicle slowed as if to enter Cedar Knoll, but then continued on Route 219 instead.
Deputies pursued the vehicle northbound on Route 219 and onto Fair Street. The vehicle, later confirmed by law enforcement to have been driven by Perkins and carrying Lewis as a passenger, attempted to elude deputies by traveling at a high-rate of speed, and weaving around other vehicles. The complaint states that Perkins eventually turned south onto Route 219, running several vehicles off the road in the process. Deputies momentarily lost sight of Perkins’ vehicle in the vicinity of Greenbrier East High School, but soon relocated the vehicle as Perkins attempted to enter the parking lot of the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
According to the criminal complaint, Perkins struck the stone sign near the entrance to the parking lot. Perkins then allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which began spinning in circles before coming to a stop near other parked vehicles in the parking lot. Lewis is alleged to have then attempted to flee the area. However, deputies were able to detain Lewis on the ground beside their patrol car. As deputies were detaining Lewis, Perkins then also alleged attempted to flee the parking lot with her vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies approached the vehicle and instructed Perkins “to stop and exit the vehicle.”
After the instruction had been repeated several times, Perkins complied and exited the vehicle with her hands raised. Deputies then took Perkins immediately into custody.
Once both Perkins and Lewis had been secured, deputies performed a search of Perkins’ vehicle. The complaint states that within Perkins’ vehicle deputies located two plastic baggies, which contained a white crystal-like substance. The contents of both bags were tested, yielding positive results for methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Lewis had previously been released from jail on a $2,000 bond related to an earlier charge. His failure to appear to a Nov. 10, 2020 court date resulted in his bond being revoked, and a warrant for his arrest being issued by the Greenbrier County Magistrate.
Lewis and Perkins were processed at the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s office before being transported to Southern Regional Jail.
