RAINELLE (WVDN) – Lindsey Nicole Raines passed away Dec. 12, 2006, due to a brain aneurism at the age of 19.

Raines was a 2004 graduate of Greenbrier West High School and a second-year student at Mountain State University, now known as WVU Tech.

I have ridden motorcycles my entire adult life, and Lindsey rode with me from the time she was a baby and loved it so much she went to riding school and learned to ride herself.

In April of 2007 several of our friends wanted to have a memorial ride for Lindsey and when I saw how large it was getting, I decided to turn it into a poker run with the hopes of making enough money to give out scholarships in her memory.

That first year we made enough money to give out scholarships to Greenbrier West, Midland Trail and Meadow Bridge high schools.

The event has grown over the years, and we now give out scholarships at Pocahontas County, Greenbrier East and James Monroe high schools as well.

I am proud to say that we have now raised in excess of $216,000 in scholarship monies for deserving area high school students. This has been possible due to help from our volunteers, participants in the run and local support.

This year’s 16th annual Lindsey Raines Memorial Scholarship Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 10.

You do not have to have a motorcycle to participate!

For a $30 registration fee, you get a T-shirt, patch, a door prize and a great meal at the end of the day.

You will also have the chance to win one of two prizes at each stop, and best hand pays $500.

The worst hand pays $250.

There will also be an auction and five other raffle drawings.

You will get all of this for $30, and you are helping the kids in your communities.

Sincerely,

Paul Raines
