The Tuesday, December 21, Lewisburg City Council meeting brought news of Greenbrier County’s first Starbucks.

Zoning Officer Marsha Cunningham made the announcement during her report.

“Walmart has sold 0.65 of an acre to Starbucks. We are getting a Starbucks,” said Cunningham. “It won’t be until the spring or fall, but they are working on it. They did everything they were supposed to, give us all the legal parts that we needed. The planning commission looked at the plans, they thought everything looks good. They discussed questions with the gentleman and they have recommended it to city council for … approval.”

Jason Donahue, a representative of the incoming business, briefly spoke during the council meeting.

“We really appreciate the working relationship we’ve had with the city over the last couple months and we look forward to being a part of your community,” said Donahue. “We’re very excited.”

The City Council considered and approved three items – a minor subdivision for the business, a preliminary plat, an overview of the layout around the business, and a site plan. More specific details are expected then.

“They will be actually presenting the final at our February meeting,” Cunningham said. “They missed the deadline by January just by a few days. Everything was right on what needed to be done.”

Wal-Bucks LLC was established with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office on June 7, as a Real Estate and Rental and Leasing limited liability company. It was established in Greenbrier County, with it’s mailing office in Morgantown. Donahue is the business’s organizer.

Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White, after the council approved each item, laughed and said “my granddaughter will be happy. Merry Christmas, and thank you very much.”
