he Greenbrier East Lady Spartans have released their 2021-22 basketball schedule and the first thing that jumps out is they will have a lot of home games.
East will play 13 games at Spartan Gym compared to nine on the road. However, four of those nine away games are in the South Carolina tournament a few days after the Christmas holiday. So, the Spartans, as of right now, have just five true road games.
That can be big for a couple of reasons.
East returns most of their roster from last season when their season abruptly ended due to Covid issues. Hopefully those issues will not continue to tear its ugly head and the girls can play the full season.
George Washington, a team the Spartans have battled passionately for several years now, will show up in Fairlea on January 8 in what could be a showdown. The Patriots were young as well last year and bring back a lot of talent back to their roster also.
The Spartans have a tremendous opportunity for a special year due to their experience.
Tuesday, November 30 is the Lady Spartans season opener when they host James Monroe.
