Williamson, W.Va. (WVDN) —On January 15, 2026, Trooper J.T. Kitts of the Williamson Detachment was requested by the Mingo County Prosecutors Office to further investigate a shooting that had occurred on December 19, 2025, on Pike Street in Williamson.
With the assistance of the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene team, Trooper Kitts was able to determine that John Carey, 48, of Williamson, discharged a firearm from inside of the apartment building and the discharged bullet traveled into an adjacent apartment.
On March 27, 2026, Trooper Kitts obtained and served arrest warrants on Mr. Carey for two (2) counts of Wanton Endangerment Involving a Firearm. The suspect was transported to Southwestern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
