LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) — Dr. Matthew A. Davis, DO, MBA, MHA, a statewide physician leader and employed by WVU Medicine, has been named to the University of Tennessee’s prestigious “Volunteer 40 Under 40” Class of 2026, recognizing outstanding alumni who demonstrate exceptional professional achievement, leadership, and service.

Dr. Davis is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Haslam College of Business Physician Executive MBA program and is being recognized for his leadership across West Virginia’s healthcare landscape. He currently serves in senior leadership roles within several major statewide medical organizations, including the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians, West Virginia Chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, West Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association, and West Virginia State Medical Association.

In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Davis actively practices in numerous Emergency Departments within the WVU Medicine system, providing care to patients across the state. He also serves as a Clinical Professor at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he is involved in training and mentoring the next generation of physicians, and is the Seneca District Chair for the Buckskin Council, Scouting America, supporting youth programming and development in six West Virginia counties.

The University of Tennessee’s Volunteer 40 Under 40 program highlights alumni who embody the Volunteer spirit through leadership, service, and impact in their communities and professions. Dr. Davis was selected among a distinguished group of honorees, including nationally recognized figures such as Trey Smith, offensive guard for the Kansas City Chiefs; Ramon Foster, former offensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers; and Rachel Cruze, #1 New York Times bestselling author and nationally recognized financial expert, to name a few.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized by the University of Tennessee,” said Dr. Davis. “This award reflects the principle of servant leadership, giving back to the profession and the communities we serve. Throughout my career, my focus has been on supporting my colleagues, advocating for my patients, and strengthening the healthcare organizations that care for our communities. I share this recognition with the many mentors, peers, and team members who make that work possible every day.”

Dr. Davis’s recognition reflects not only his professional accomplishments but also his ongoing dedication to advancing physician leadership, improving access to care, and serving communities throughout West Virginia.
