FAIRLEA- The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans were cruising through four innings last Friday night when they hosted the Woodrow Wilson Lady Flying Eagles on a cloudy, but nice evening.

East started well, but lost momentum late in a 14-3 loss to their archrivals.

In what started as a pitcher’s duel between East’s Kennah Collins and Beckley’s Baley Nickell, turned into a little offense for Greenbrier East in the bottom of the third frame. Sydney Norman led off with a double and then advanced to third on Reagan Cline’s single to third and an errant throw at first base brought Norman home for a 1-0 lead. Cline would then score two batters later on a Beckley error on a ball hit by Collins and after that, the Lady Spartans led 2-0 after three.

Lacy Patriacca scored in the fourth inning for the Spartans, and they held what seemed like a comfortable 3-0 lead.

However, Collins was pulled from the circle after the fifth and it was a recipe for Eagle success. The Lady Eagles scored five in the fifth (3 earned off Collins) and then took advantage of some Spartan miscues and walks to add nine more in the sixth and that point, it was game, set, match.

Cline led East at the plate with a 2-3 night. She scored a run and drove in another. Norman went 1-3 with a run scored and Patriacca’s run was the only other scored for Greenbrier East.

Kacie Fraley went 3-4 with 2 RBI for Beckley and Lily Collins was 3-3 and drove in 3 more.

East fell to 1-1 on the young season.

The Lady Spartans travel to Alleghany (VA) on Monday and then to Pikeview on Tuesday. Check the WVDN Facebook for the scores and stats from those two.
