GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – According to a criminal complaint, on Feb. 23, around 2:13 p.m., an officer accompanied another officer to the vicinity of Seneca Trail to serve a warrant on a female subject. The probation officer had said this location was the last site of a ping from her ankle monitor.
When the officer arrived on scene, a male later identified as Harold Bailes answered the door. The officer asked Bailes if the subject of the warrant was inside the residence, and he reportedly said she wasn’t. According to the criminal complaint, it was confirmed that she was Bailes’ girlfriend. The officer asked Bailes if he knew where she was, and he reportedly said he didn’t know.
Another woman was there and reportedly said it was her apartment. According to the criminal complaint, after talking to her, it was determined that the person they were trying to locate was upstairs.
When the officer went upstairs, he found the individual hiding in a cabinet laying on her back in an alleged effort to hide from law enforcement. She was taken into custody and secured in the officer’s patrol vehicle.
When the officer went back to the house, probation officers said they found a syringe. The syringe reportedly appeared to contain a clear substance. Bailes was detained at this point and placed in a cruiser.
A little while later, photographs were taken of items observed in plain sight within the residence; the criminal complaint notes these were documented as suspected stolen property. (No formal theft charges were filed at the time of the report.) Bailes was questioned about the substance in the syringe. According to the complaint, he said it was methamphetamine, and it was his.
Bailes was then placed under arrest for harboring a fugitive, obstructing, and possession of a controlled substance. The female, Haley Coininger, was charged with obstructing for hiding from law enforcement. Both subjects were transported to the Lewisburg office of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department for processing.
At the time of publishing, both individuals have been released and are not listed as inmates at Southern Regional Jail.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
