Pax, W.Va. (WVDN) – On Thursday, February 26, 2026, at approximately 3:13 p.m., members of the West Virginia State Police Turnpike attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 77 near the 56-mile marker for observed traffic violations. The driver failed to yield and fled southbound on I-77, ultimately becoming involved in a motor vehicle crash near the 51-mile marker.

The unidentified suspect fled the crash scene on foot toward Maple Fork Road in Raleigh County. During the subsequent search, investigators learned the suspect may have obtained a ride from an unknown individual and was later dropped off in the Mount Hope area of Fayette County, where he again fled on foot.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. The suspect has not been identified or apprehended at this time. This investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the West Virginia State Police Turnpike at 304-256-6786.
