Ethel, W.Va. (WVDN) —On Thursday, February 5th, Senior Trooper J.P. Ziegler of the Logan Detachment received a CPS referral for a reported sexual assault in the Ethel Area of Logan County.
Following an extensive investigation, Trooper Ziegler discovered that Daniel Scaggs,44, of Logan, had allegedly sexually assaulted a young juvenile over the past 3 years.
On Thursday, February 26th, 2026, Trooper Ziegler obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Scaggs. Troopers responded to Mr. Scaggs’ residence in the Ethel area of Logan County, and upon arrival, Mr. Scaggs fled into a nearby wooded area. Troopers were able to locate Mr. Scaggs and take him into custody without incident.
Mr. Scaggs was charged with Sexual Assault in the First Degree and was transported to Logan County Magistrate Court for arraignment. Bond was set at $100,000 cash only, and Mr. Scaggs was then transported to Southwestern Regional Jail.
