FRANKFORD W.Va. (WVDN) – The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 10, in the church fellowship hall. Following the meeting, the ladies released the following report.
Carole Spencer presided and shared about another name for Jesus, which is love. (I John 4:16 and John 10:30) In I Corinthians 13:13 faith and hope is essential, unselfish love(charity) is the most enduring and it represents the character of God. Jesus showed his love for us when he died on the cross. (John 3:16) We are to love God with all our heart and our neighbor as ourselves. (Matthew 22:37-39) How can we show the love of God? Carole challenged us to show love to someone this week or month. Cindy Fleshman led in prayer.
Dyan Hefner presented the devotion, “Struggles of the Heart.” The heart is the human organ associated with Valentine’s Day. It keeps us alive and is a mental, emotional, and spiritual organ. It is very important in the emotional sense such as feeling happy, sad, and love. The heart is a critic which can have favorable or unfavorable results. We are our own worst critic. Our heart is the first to judge ourselves. (I John 3:18-20) Love with actions reassures our heart in God’s presence. God is greater than our conscience and knows all things. Even if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart’s critics. He knows us and sees us. Do something that will make you proud this week or month. Let your love show even if it is something small. (Romans 8:37-39, Romans 5:8, I John 3:1 and I John 4:16) We need help to stop judging ourselves in things we do. Don’t get down on ourself. God is greater than our heart’s critic.
Barb Seldomridge presented the missionary education report about the Church of God in Bulgaria by Cathy Rankin Simpson. Bulgaria is located in Southeastern Europe and is bordered by Romania to the north, the Black Sea to the east, Turkey and Greece to the south, and Serbia and North Macedonia to the west. Cathy and David Simpson were missionaries in Bulgaria for 10 years. They were there in 2005 when Bulgaria celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the Church of God. The people of Bulgaria remembered the missionaries who had been there before the Simpsons and continually asked about them. (Psalm 100:5) Residents of Bulgaria endured much during the two world wars and communism. Many worshiped in secret, but the believers held on. The Lord is good. In 2026, a team retreat was held there and many attended. Prayer requests include that with God’s moving to have more people to become missionaries in global strategies and help Pastors who have to hold down a job and lead their church and take care of their families.
Carole read a note from the Williamsburg food pantry thanking the group for our food donations. The group is still searching for a painter for the fellowship hall. Members will rejoin next month and vote. The group will bring hoodies next month for foster children at the Children’s Home Society. The group will serve the Maxwelton Ruritans on February 26.
The next meeting will be on March 10 and Michelle Carpenter dismissed in prayer.
Attending were: Angie Scott, Barb Seldomridge, Carole Spencer, Cindy Fleshman, Debbie Sammons, Donna Scott, Dyan Hefner, Fran Spencer, Jamie Harvey, Joan Vance, Marty Burns, Michelle Carpenter, Pauline Perkins, and Patty Owens.
