Montrose, W.Va. (WVDN) — On Thursday, Feb. 12, at approximately 9:16 p.m., Trooper H.J. Bonetti and Senior Trooper A.P. Petrella responded to a report of a shooting at Mule Hollow Road in Montrose, Randolph County.
During the investigation, it was determined that Derek Arbogast, 37, of Montrose, allegedly shot his brother, Brett Arbogast, 31, of Elkins, multiple times with a .22 caliber revolver. Troopers further determined that following the initial shooting, a second individual, identified as Larry Talkington, 62, of Montrose, allegedly restrained the victim and dragged him back into the residence to prevent him from leaving. Once inside the residence, the victim was shot again by Derek Arbogast.
The victim was transported from the scene and subsequently flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Derek Arbogast and Larry Talkington have both been charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree and housed at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
