Jack Harold Smith

Jack Harold Smith, age 98, of Ronceverte, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV. Born on April 13, 1927, in Logan, WV, Jack was the son of the late Mark Haymond and Christine Bare Smith.

Jack spent his professional life as a dedicated Programmer for CSX Railroad, retiring after a long and accomplished career. Known affectionately as “Mr. Jack” by the congregation of First Baptist Church of Fairlea, he was a cherished member, always greeting others with a warm smile and a piece of candy. Jack’s generosity and friendly spirit touched countless lives within his church and community. Jack loved the Lord and witnessing to people, sharing his faith openly and inspiring those around him with his unwavering devotion. His commitment to serving others was deeply rooted in his spiritual beliefs, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.

An avid outdoorsman, Jack also loved golfing and bowling. He took pride in maintaining an immaculate home and was renowned for his storytelling abilities, often entertaining his nieces and nephews with tales both imaginative and heartfelt. Alongside his late wife, Virginia Lee Smith, Jack enjoyed traveling in their RV and devoted many hours to volunteer work, embodying a spirit of service and adventure.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Lee Smith; son, John Edward Smith; his parents; and his brothers, Mark (Nellie) Smith, Herbert (Virginia) Smith, Bob Smith, and John (Betty) Smith; as well as his brother-in-law, George Raines. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Ann Dickinson Smith; his grandchildren, Steven Smith (Tracy) and David Smith; and his great-granddaughter, Avery Smith. Jack also leaves behind sisters, Mary Ellen Raines and Ida Lea Gosik (Joe); his sister-in-law, Jewell Smith; and a large extended family, including several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends, who will miss his kindness and generosity.

A funeral service in honor of Jack’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel in Lewisburg, WV. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Jack will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte, WV, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the First Baptist Church of Fairlea Scholarship Fund or to Gwen’s Meals c/o Shepherds Center of Greenbrier Valley.

Jack may not have reached his 100th birthday, but he truly lived a full and meaningful life. He will be remembered for his faith, his love for family, his generosity, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The online guestbook is available for condolences and memories at www.morganfh.net.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV.
