WASHINGTON, D.C. (WVDN) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee and a member of the Senate Commerce Committee’s Aviation, Space, and Innovation Subcommittee, announced a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) allocation from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for terminal modernization of the West Virginia International Yeager Airport in Charleston, W.Va.
This funding, which was secured through a CDS request made solely by Senator Capito in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26), will be used to renovate the original terminal. These renovations will elevate the passenger experience, improve one of the oldest commercial terminals in the United States, and position the airport to meet future forecasted air service demand.
“For years, I have made certain to highlight and support the needs of rural airports in West Virginia,” Senator Capito said. “Yeager’s original terminal was built in the 1940s and is long overdue for major upgrades. Securing funding from the DOT is one step in the process of directing the resources to complete the goal of increasing passenger growth at Yeager Airport. West Virginia continues to see the benefits of Congressionally Directed Spending, and this announcement is yet another example.”
“On behalf of West Virginia International Yeager Airport, I want to thank Senator Capito for always showing up for West Virginia. We’re incredibly grateful for her partnership in securing this funding for our terminal project,” Dominique Ranieri, Airport Director & CEO of West Virginia International Yeager Airport, said. “This investment helps us deliver a passenger-friendly, modern travel experience while driving jobs and growth across the region. Her leadership is making it possible for us to advance a generational improvement that will serve West Virginians for decades.”
