WASHINGTON, D.C. (WVDN) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award for the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Company for the construction of a new fire station.

This award, which was secured through a CDS request made solely by Senator Capito in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26), will be used to construct a new fire station to replace their current facility.

“As Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Company continues to modernize, the need for improvement is critical. This funding is one step in the process of directing the needed resources to provide Ridgeley, Carpendale, and the surrounding communities with the technology and adequate resources to improve preparedness,” Senator Capito said. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud to have helped utilize the CDS process to help make this project a reality.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Senator Shelley Moore Capito for her unwavering support and tireless advocacy on behalf of Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Company,” Deputy Chief Rodney Twyman said. “Her commitment to helping rural and volunteer fire departments ensures that we can continue to protect our neighbors, our families, and our little slice of Almost Heaven.”

Individual award details listed below:

  • $2,841,000 Capito CDS award to Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Company (Ridgeley, W.Va.) to construct a new fire station to replace their current 54-year-old facility. This project is an investment for the state as it ensures the protection of life and property in Ridgeley, Carpendale, and the surrounding communities. A well-equipped fire station with adequate firefighting technology and resources strengthens the state’s overall emergency preparedness and resilience. It enables firefighters to effectively combat fires, perform rescues, and respond to other emergencies promptly, safeguarding both the residents and businesses.
