CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — The West Virginia State Park Superintendents Association today announced that a West Virginia University student has been selected to receive the organization’s Steve Bolar Scholarship.

Amelia Caldwell, from Mathias in Hardy County, will receive the $1,000 scholarship, which will be awarded in two $500 installments. She is pursuing a degree in art and elementary education and plans to become a primary school art teacher. She is also a member of the Future Farmers of America and National Honor Society and volunteers with the Lost River Projects Foundation.

“The West Virginia State Park Superintendent’s Association is honored to invest in Amelia’s future,” said Benjamin Leedom, president of the association and superintendent at Blackwater Falls State Park. “Her passion for education and her respect for our state’s natural resources embody the spirit of the Steve Bolar Scholarship, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have on West Virginia’s next generation of students.”

The Steve Bolar Scholarship is awarded annually to support students who demonstrate academic excellence, community service and a strong appreciation for West Virginia’s state parks and natural resources. The scholarship honors the legacy of Steve Bolar, who was superintendent at Pipestem Resort State Park for 14 years. Bolar also served at Holly River, Beech Fork and Canaan Valley Resort state parks for a total of 32 years of service with West Virginia State Parks.
