NextEra Energy Transmission MidAtlantic will file its siting applications with the West Virginia and Maryland Public Service Commissions for the MidAtlantic Resiliency Link, an approximately 107.5-mile transmission project identified by PJM as critical to strengthening reliability and resiliency across the region. NextEra Energy Transmission MidAtlantic is prepared to file siting applications to the Pennsylvania Utility Commission and Virginia State Corporation Commission in the coming weeks.
“This line strengthens the backbone of the region’s electric grid and helps ensure reliable energy for families and businesses in the region for decades to come,” said Kaitlin McCormick, spokesperson for the MidAtlantic Resiliency Link. “Our early and consistent engagement with the community has been our approach from the start. We will continue working closely with landowners, local leaders and stakeholders throughout this review.”
Extensive community outreach and engagement shaped the route.
The team conducted eight open houses along the project route with nearly 1,200 attendees, analyzed input from more than 1,500 public comments and held over 350 meetings with local organizations, businesses and elected officials.
Wherever possible, the proposed route parallels existing rights-of-way and avoids existing and planned residences and businesses.
The team ensured the project protects natural areas with adjustments to limit impacts to watersheds, stream habitats, scenic viewsheds and ecotourism centers.

The MidAtlantic Resiliency Link will:
Strengthen the regional transmission infrastructure so electricity can move more efficiently across the region, especially during peak demand and severe weather.
Increase electricity capacity and improve the flow of power with a bi-directional high voltage line, helping relieve congestion, supporting growing electrical demand and helping to ensure a more resilient energy system for our communities.
Generate long-term local revenue with millions of dollars in tax revenue over the life of the project to support municipalities and school systems along the route.
Support manufacturing, commercial growth and economic development by delivering the reliable power that businesses need.
