FRANKFORD, W.Va. (WVDN) — A local Girl Scout is gaining regional recognition for her research on the impact of youth leadership. Evalyn Hanshew, a Junior Girl Scout from Frankford Troop #10405, recently secured first place in the Individual Division, Sociology Category, at a regional social studies fair.
The Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council celebrated Hanshew’s achievement this week across its social media platforms, citing her project as a testament to the organization’s mission. Her winning presentation focused on the sociological role Girl Scouts play in developing the leaders of tomorrow.
Hanshew’s academic success comes as she works toward a major milestone in her scouting career: the Girl Scout Bronze Award. The award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn and requires scouts to complete a project that addresses a community need or provides a significant service.
The Black Diamond Council expressed high hopes for the Frankford Scouts’ future.
“Way to go, Evalyn,” the council stated in a public post. “We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see how you continue to lead the future.”
By combining her research skills with her commitment to Troop #10405, Hanshew has become a standout representative for the Frankford scouting community. She is currently finalizing the requirements for her Bronze Award while continuing her studies.
