CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – In response to Governor Patrick Morrisey’s declaration of a State of Preparedness for all 55 counties the West Virginia National Guard is preparing for a potential state activation in response to a significant winter storm system forecasted to impact the region from Saturday through Monday.
With weather forecasting models showing a wide range of potential impacts, units are preparing to respond at the direction of the Governor to both the most likely and most dangerous outcomes.
The State of Preparedness allows the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) to prepare staff and resources to respond in the event of an emergency. Agencies have been placed on standby and are prepared to report to the State Emergency Operations Center if needed.
Governor Morrisey encourages all West Virginians to remain vigilant in preparation for the storm. That means staying alert to changing weather conditions, monitoring local forecasts, and following any guidance or instructions issued by emergency management and public safety officials.
Residents are also encouraged to limit unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions and take steps to ensure their safety throughout the storm.
