FRANKFORD W.Va. (WVDN) – The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 13, in the church fellowship hall. The ladies provided the following report.
Carole Spencer presided and opened up the meeting sharing that she had received an advent calendar telling of the names of Jesus. For January, his name is light. Jesus is the light of the world. (John 8:12) He is the light to lead us down a path. The group sang, “Let it Shine.” Donna Scott led in prayer.
Dyan Hefner brought us our devotion, “Eyes Wide Open,” with scripture reference Psalm 25:15. Our eyes are the light to the world. The author was sitting in her car with her window down and fighting bees and wasps from entering her car. She started thinking about the dragonfly. They are a mysterious creature that has nearly 360-degree vision. They can see things coming at about every angle. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is healthy, your body will be full of light, (Matthew 6:22) You will be able to distinguish between light and darkness. Guard your heart and eyes and be careful what you let in. In order to determine what things that can come in, you must have understanding by getting to know the Lord, encouraging hope and faith in his promises. (Ephesians 1:18) We must remove spiritual blindness and receive insights to his word by studying his word. (Psalm 119:18) Be on guard from temptation by watching and praying, (Matthew 26:41) Seek God’s help because he is the ultimate provider and protector and the creator of all things. (Psalm 121:1) If we do these things, we will be better able to maneuver. We need to keep our eyes on the Lord where he sees all that is coming at us. January can be a bad time of year by lack of sun, getting overwhelmed, getting down on self and feeling like a failure. We need to be the light, be positive and not be negative. Dyan also read the words to the song, “Open my eyes that I may see.”
Barb Seldomridge brought us our missionary education report, “Praying for Missionaries,” by Norm Howell. Praying for missionaries is demanded and essential for every church. Those called are obeying the great commission. Norm served overseas for eight years. Divine intervention helped him with diseases, broken bones, burns , cyclones, earthquakes, being threatened and many more things. Every believer is called to pray. We are to pray for the harvest that is plentiful, but laborers are few. (Matthew 9: 37-38) We need to exercise intercessory prayer for others, especially missionaries. (James 5:16) Our prayer for missionaries should include more people on the mission field. The majority of people are lost. We have not because we ask not.(James 4:2) We need to pray persistently. (Matthew 7:7) We need to pray for missionaries on the mission field. They can feel isolated, lonely, have physical and spiritual needs. We need to pray fervently for their needs and acceptance. (Romans 15:30) We also need to pray in the spirit with a continuous prayerful attitude. (Ephesians 6:18) When the church is on their knees, they will be empowered to do God’s work. The Apostle Paul had trouble in Macedonia and wrote a letter to the church of Corinth emphasizing suffering, comfort, and God’s power in weakness. (II Corinthians 1:8-11) We need more missionaries to take place in the harvest of souls. We need to continue to pray for ministry success and protection. (II Thessalonians 3:1) The Apostle Paul asked fellow Christians to pray for him and his companions that God would open a “door for the word” and they could proclaim the “mystery of Christ.” (Colossians 4:3) Missionaries need an opportunity to tell God’s message. We also need to pray for the internal strategic needs of missionaries such as travel, physical adjustments, language barriers, home sickness, loneliness, protection, revival to the area they are serving and clarity of the gospel message. In other words, we need to pray, pray and pray.
Jamie Harvey presented the treasurer’s report and Pauline Perkins read last month’s minutes.
Carole thanked members for serving a dinner to family members of Paul Lilly after the funeral. The church and the group collected money for donations to Latin American Children’s Fund in Peru and Camp Lyons in Kentucky. The group added to the collection and voted to send $1000 to each group. The group will be serving the Maxwelton Ruritans on January 22. The church will be having a souper bowl on February 8 after church. The dates for the spring yard sale will be May 16 and the fall yard sale will be on September 12. Carole will be picking a nominating committee for upcoming elections.
The next meeting will be on February 10 and Dyan Hefner dismissed in prayer.
