CHARLESTON, W. Va. (WVDN) – On January 15, 2026, at approximately o a.m., a spill of a de-icing fluid happened at the 130th Airlift Wing, located at McLaughlin Air National Guard Base in Charleston, West Virginia. Less than 500 gallons of diluted Propylene glycol, used for deicing aircraft prior to flight operations was inadvertently spilled in the 130th motor pool area. This chemical is non-toxic, nonhazardous, and there is no threat to the public or to local water systems.

Per established protocols, the 130th AW Fire Department, along with personnel from the 130th Bioenvironmental Unit responded to the scene. Additionally, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection was immediately notified of the spill and advised of proper next steps.

Cleanup of the fluid spill is currently underway and contained.
