Dear Editor,

Our great nation is formed on the premise that ALL men are created equal: that ANY person on US soil (regardless of race, color or citizenship) has the right to a fair hearing (Due Process): that ANY person can challenge their detention and petition for release (Habeas Corpus)

As ICE sweeps continue, thousands of innocent people are being detained with no access to legal counsel in facilities that have no transparency or oversight.

My father served six years in the Navy during WWII, defending the rights of innocent human beings who were being detained and abused because of their religion or ethnicity. The US stood up to defend against the leadership that dictated through hatred, division and violence.

History will judge our great nation harshly if we allow this moral and legal travesty to continue.

As we pledge allegiance to our flag in 2026, let us act on its final promise:

Liberty and Justice for ALL!
