Boones Mill, Va. (WVDN) — Nestled along Back Creek Road, a private residence transforms into a Roanoke Valley holiday tradition: The Christmas Farm. The farm is open nightly from 5:30-10 p.m., including Christmas Day. The drive-through display illuminates the countryside with more than 700,000 lights, featuring themed scenes of beloved characters.

Raymond Jones, owner of the farm, single-handedly does the bulk of the work to transform the farm into a magical drive-through, a process that takes more than two months. He continues repairs and preparations year-round for the next season.

The farm is located at 7051 Back Creek Road, where visitors are greeted by a festive display that turns a quiet country road into a bright route of seasonal cheer. The illuminated tunnel is a crowd favorite.

What draws hundreds of guests each year is not just the glimmering display, but the spirit in which it’s presented. The Christmas Farm operates free of charge for drivers passing through, while never asking for donations, they are grateful for any donations which support veterans through the Gary Sinise Foundation—a cause embraced by the community. The donations help spread holiday joy while giving back to those who have served.

This year’s celebration promises to be as family-friendly as ever. Organizers have prepared 1,200 bags of candy, which also include an ornament to color, to hand out to children on Saturdays, a small gesture that adds a touch to the night drive. The farm also features appearances by Santa on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 5:30-9 p.m. (weather permitting), a seasonal highlight for youngsters hoping to share their wish lists.

Updates continue with seasonal surprises, including featured characters and the potential presence of the Grinch amid the twinkling displays. The heart of The Christmas Farm remains accessible. Jones invites families to enjoy the Christmas lights and create memories together.
