CHARLESTON W.Va. (WVDN) – Employees of the Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) came together to support the YWCA Sojourner’s Homeless Shelter for Women and Families through a food drive that provided critical resources to women and families in need.

YWCA Charleston Chief Executive Officer Sonya Hairston accepted the donations from PSC Chairman Charlotte R. Lane on Monday at the Commission’s offices at 201 Brooks Street in Charleston.

“This generosity helps create lasting change,” said Hairston. “Because of support like this, we can continue providing critical services and a pathway to stability for women and families in our community.”

The week-long initiative included an employee holiday tree-decorating contest, with staff members voting for their favorite tree by donating nonperishable food items or making monetary contributions.
Through the generosity of PSC employees, the drive collected 2,600 nonperishable food items and $900 in monetary donations. These contributions will help provide meals and essential support to women and families seeking safe shelter and stability throughout the holiday season and beyond.

“The food drive reflects the generosity and compassion of our employees and their commitment to giving back to the communities we serve,” Lane said.
