LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – According to a criminal complaint, on Dec. 6, at 11:23 p.m., an officer received a call from Greenbrier County 911 for a welfare check in the vicinity of a motel in Lewisburg. Greenbrier County Dispatch reportedly said a female caller stated a male at the motel was inside a room screaming, and water was running out from under the door of his motel room and flooding the hallway.

When the officer arrived, he reported that he did see water running from underneath the door in question. As the officer got closer, the complaint notes he could hear a male subject and hear the water running in the room. When the officer got to the door, he reportedly knocked and loudly announced himself as law enforcement. A man, later identified as John Wilcox, came to the door. The bathroom and entryway to the room were flooded. The officer could hear the sound of a busted pipe spraying water inside the bathroom.

The officer told Wilcox to come out of the room, and he reportedly did. The officer then entered the bathroom of the motel room and allegedly saw that the sink had been ripped from the wall. One of the sink hose connectors had reportedly been ripped away from the fitting. The officer shut off the water to keep it from spraying and leaking more. He then stepped out into the hallway to talk to Wilcox.

Wilcox showed signs of being under the influence of narcotics, according to the criminal complaint. Wilcox reportedly told the officer the sink had a leak, and when he went to inspect it, he must have slipped and fallen into the sink and ripped it loose. The officer asked Wilcox if he was under the influence of drugs, and Wilcox allegedly said he had used drugs, but was unsure what he had used.

The officer next took Wilcox to his police cruiser and asked him to sit in the back seat. Wilcox complied.

The officer spoke with the witness again. She allegedly said she could hear Wilcox hitting something in the room at the time he was in there, screaming. A person staying in the room beside Wilcox came out and reportedly said they could also hear him hitting something inside the room for close to an hour.

The officer then went back to the cruiser and advised Wilcox that he was placing him under arrest and placed him in handcuffs. The officer transported Wilcox to the Lewisburg Police Department for processing, then to Southern Regional Jail. At the time of publishing, Wilcox is not listed as an inmate.
