WASHINGTON W.Va. (WVDN) – This week, Senator Jim Justice and Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) introduced the National Miners Day Resolution. This bipartisan resolution would recognize December 6, 2025, as National Miners Day in appreciation, honor, and remembrance of the accomplishments and sacrifices of the miners in our nation and local communities.

Read more about it HERE.

Here’s what they are saying (WTAS):

“As we prepare to honor our nation’s miners on National Miners Day, we appreciate this special recognition from Sens. Justice and Gallego, whose states are synonymous with U.S. mining. American miners keep our supply chains running by supplying the metals, materials and energy needed for economic prosperity, a strong defense and global competitiveness. For those contributions–and more–they deserve our thanks and admiration,” said Rich Nolan, National Miners Association President and CEO.

“Coal miners are the quiet giants of America’s industrial strength. From the metallurgical coal that fuels global steelmaking to the thermal coal that keeps homes warm and the grid steady, West Virginia miners do the hard, necessary work that powers American progress. This bipartisan resolution is a fitting tribute to the grit, sacrifice, and productivity of the men and women who make it possible,” said Chris Hamilton, President of the West Virginia Coal Association.

“America’s energy and manufacturing backbone owes much to miners—especially those who provide the coal that ensures a stable grid and competitive industries. Without our miners, you don’t have reliable power, resilient supply chains, or the industrial capacity that sets this country apart. This resolution rightly honors the workers who make all of that possible,” said Emily Arthun, President of the American Coal Council.

Our miners continue to mine the coal that makes the steel that builds the world. We thank the Senators for recognizing our miners’ contributions and sacrifices. Today we pay tribute to our coal miners who make our everyday conveniences possible,” said Ben Beakes, President of the Metallurgical Coal Producers Association.

“Wyoming’s miners lead the nation in safe, responsible thermal-coal production, delivering the affordable, dependable electricity that underpins the American way of life. Our miners work in challenging conditions to supply the fuel that keeps the grid stable and utility bills manageable for families across the country. Their contribution deserves recognition, and this resolution does exactly that,” said Travis Deti, Executive Director of the Wyoming Mining Association.

“Kentucky miners have powered communities across the Southeast and Midwest for generations, providing reliable coal that keeps factories running, homes heated, and regional economies strong. Mining is tough, honest work, and our miners take pride in doing it well. This recognition is an important reminder of the value they bring to the nation every single day,” said Sam McNown, President of the Kentucky Coal Association.
