CHARMCO, W.Va (WVDN) — As winter approaches, the Greenbrier West Cavaliers wrestling program is sharpening its focus and preparing to start the 2025-26 season, with hopes of returning to prominence in Class A competition.

The Cavaliers, representing Greenbrier West High School, boast a storied wrestling tradition.

Their history includes multiple state-team championships (AA/A and Class A) and a legacy of producing standout grapplers. In the most recent season (2024-25), Greenbrier West sent seven individual wrestlers to the state tournament, evidence that the next generation of wrestlers is ready to compete.

According to the statewide wrestling schedule, the 2025-26 West Virginia high school wrestling season officially began November 17, 2025.

Under head coach Jeremy Tincher (with assistants Anthony Kesterson, Travis Walker and Tucker Lilly), Greenbrier West is preparing for the typical grind of dual meets, quads, invitationals, and — hopefully — regional and state tournaments.

For Greenbrier West, the 2025-26 season represents a chance to reassert itself among West Virginia’s top Class A wrestling programs. With a track record of team success and individual postseason qualifiers, the Cavaliers have built a foundation they aim to expand this season. Coaches and returning wrestlers know it won’t be easy: wrestling is demanding, and success depends on depth, discipline, and consistency.

But the program’s history and recent performance give reason for optimism that the Cavaliers can chase another strong run at regionals and state.

The Cavaliers started their season strong with the first quad of the season hosted by Point Pleasant High School this past Saturday (12/6/25). Schools in attendance were Lewis County High School, Grafton High School, Point Pleasant High School and Greenbrier West.

With a 2-1 record for the Cavaliers after defeating Lewis 46-28 and Grafton 42-37 but falling to Point 27-52, the Cavaliers have a good idea on what to they may see through this season.

A tradition for as long as I know is Tincher’s choice that gives the boys something to work towards throughout the season.

Tincher’s Choice is the wrestler of the week to break it down, he (Tincher) has a lot of boxes these young men need to check before they are nominated, and this wrestler definitely checked all those boxes with an outstanding performance this weekend 3-0 and that wrestler is Aiden Palmer.

West will continue its season this coming weekend as Greenbrier East holds the Morse Reese Memorial on Saturday December 13th.

Wrestling begins at 10:00 AM. Come and watch some amazing wrestling and your chance to catch both the Cavaliers and the Spartans under the same roof.
