Sean Gregory Reed
The family of Sean Gregory Reed, age 34, is deeply saddened to confirm his unexpected passing on October 23, 2025, at his house in Illinois. Sean had remarkably survived a paramotoring accident in 2024 but had succumbed to tremendous struggles with recovery from the physical injuries and mental health challenges that escalated with his traumatic brain injury (TBI/DAI) deficits and symptoms.
Sean was born at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois on October 30, 1990.
With family ancestry in the Greenbrier and Monroe County areas, dating back to the 1700s, Sean moved to West Virginia as a young teen to be with his grandma, Elvina “Blue” Dewitt; grandpa, William “Bill” Dewitt, now deceased; and his father, Ronald A. Reed.
Sean was a 2010 graduate of Greenbrier East High School, where he wrestled, played football, was active in JROTC, and enjoyed friendships with many who engaged with his charismatic, fun loving, and social personality.
A proud U.S. Marine Veteran with experiences that both shaped and scarred him; Sean was blessed to befriend men and women among all walks of life and fortunate to travel throughout various countries and to live in several beautiful states such as Hawaii and California.
Sean was an enthusiastic adventurer, often traveling with his beloved service dog, Ahsoka. He was an avid snowboarder, paramotoring pilot and instructor, Chicago Cubs and Star Wars fan, Harley owner, car enthusiast, video gamer, and most proudly a father to his young son.
Sean’s legacy will be carried on through his only child, Atlas James Rucker (mother, Sikkria Rose; grandmother, Julie Vanraalte (Papa, Devin Vanraalte)).
Sean’s ever present smile, “golden boy persona” and memories will forever be honored and remembered by those he is survived by, including his father, Ronald A. Reed, stepmother, Dina Reed; grandmother, Elvina G. DeWitt; sisters, Doreen G. Reed (niece, Brooklyn Mackenzie Williford), Danielle M. Sabbag (nephew, Hanlon Cooper, nieces, Quincy Kai, Talia Wai), and Gabrielle J. Gessie; uncles, James Kenneth Reed (Leslye), Robert A. Reed (Lori); and cousins, Caitlyn, Devin, (Hunter); numerous friends and acquaintances; and additional family throughout Illinois, Texas, and Maryland, including his biological mother, stepfather, sisters, brother, and friends.
In his shortened lifetime, Sean G. Reed inspired and impacted the lives of many with his outwardly positive, outgoing, and energetic lifestyle.
It would be our family’s wish to share his passing in hopes of spreading more conversation, education, awareness, and kindness to those who suffer “invisible disabilities”, such as those effects of TBIs, mental health, and the special needs of military veterans.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
