LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – A new member has been announced to serve on the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) Board of Governors.

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey appointed Raymond Joseph as a member of the board that oversees the school’s operation. His term began Oct. 14, and he replaces Sharon Hall, whose term expired June 30.

The WVSOM Board of Governors consists of nine lay members appointed by West Virginia’s governor and three elected, nonvoting advisory representatives — one each from the school’s faculty, staff and student body.

Joseph, a resident of Charleston, W.Va., has served as the chief executive officer of the West Virginia Association of Realtors since 2002. He is a trained mediator and is certified by the National Association of Realtors to teach the national realtor safety course and a member of the association’s safety committee.

Joseph has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from West Virginia University. He is certified to teach in five states and has more than 10 professional designations.

He serves as president of the Board of Directors for Members Choice Federal Credit Union and is an active board member of several statewide organizations focused on housing, economic development and public policy.

James W. Nemitz, Ph.D., WVSOM’s president, said it is exciting to have new board members who can offer additional perspectives, and he is thankful to the years long service of outgoing members.

“WVSOM very much appreciates the many contributions made by Ms. Hall during her term as a WVSOM BOG member. Her leadership on the finance committee was especially valued,” he said. “I’m eager to work with Mr. Joseph and listen to the ideas of all our newest board members on how we can continue to move our institution forward.”
