CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack today released the following statement after FirstEnergy’s announcement at the Harrison Power Plant.
“West Virginia has always been an energy state. From the coal that built our nation to the fossil fuels that power our industries today, our state has provided the reliable energy America needs to prosper. Today, we stand at another pivotal moment as FirstEnergy announces the addition of a natural gas-fired power plant in Harrison County,” Treasurer Pack said. “This project is about more than electricity—it’s about securing our energy future, creating good jobs, and ensuring West Virginia continues to lead America forward. I would like to thank FirstEnergy CEO Brian Tierney for his leadership and for investing in West Virginia’s future. Let’s keep this momentum rolling so West Virginia can remain an energy powerhouse for the nation.”
The announcement of the Harrison Power Plant is the first step in FirstEnergy’s proposed plan to address the growing demand for dependable, cost-effective electricity for families and businesses in West Virginia. The company’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), filed in October with the West Virginia Public Service Commission, includes building 1.2 gigawatts of new gas-fired power generation in West Virginia.
According to the proposal, submitted by Mon Power and Potomac Edison, subsidiaries of FirstEnergy, the companies will continue to deliver reliable, cost-effective power to West Virginia homes and businesses over the next decade.
