CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack today presented more than $27,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and Clendenin Pharmacy, Inc. Check presentations were held Monday, November 3 in Charleston and in Clendenin.

“These unclaimed property dollars provide our local businesses and law enforcement agencies the opportunity to invest and strengthen their programs,” Treasurer Pack said. “The people of Kanawha County currently have more than 550,852 unclaimed property listings totaling over $79.4 million. My Office encourages our citizens to check our online database to see if we are holding any money for you or your family.”

Treasurer Pack on Monday presented $2,288.20 to Clendenin Pharmacy, Inc. The funds came from group policy benefits and miscellaneous checks.

The check for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office totaled $24,895.97 and came from the Treasurer’s Office’s September online firearms auction where 134 firearms were sold.

“This is going to benefit our field deputies tremendously. The money that we received today is going toward upgraded portable radios for our deputies to use every day,” Kanawha County Sheriff Joe Crawford said. “We’re extremely grateful to Treasurer Pack and his Office and what they’ve done. This is just an added bonus to show the cooperation that we get from the state government, and our state elected officials.”

Treasurer Pack recently presented a more than $8,000 check to the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office and a more than $5,000 check to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office form the September online firearms auction. The winning bid amountfrom the auction was $130,100 placed from a federal firearm licensed dealer in West Virginia. It was the first winner from West Virginia to participate in the Office’s online firearms auction.

“Modernizing our Unclaimed Property program by implementing online firearms auctions is and will be crucial to helping law enforcement around the state,” Treasurer Pack said. “We are now able to return dollars back their budgets at a quicker rate with nearly 2,000 firearms sold totaling more than $400,000 this year alone.”
