Donald Trump says he hates us, refuses to talk to our leaders, and then blames us for not compromising. One of our local deputies recently posted that Hamas is easier to negotiate with than Democrats. An employee at our courthouse called our “No Kings” protest a “No Peace” protest.
Enough is enough. It’s time for Democrats to define ourselves instead of letting others do it for us. The Greenbrier County Democratic Women’s Club is a group of nearly 100 members from across the county who promote Democratic values through service, civic engagement, and community leadership. We are educators, counselors, business owners, doctors, and lawyers. We are also volunteers, people who have dedicated our professional and personal lives to serving our community.
In part, we bring:
● 180 years of experience as post-secondary educators
● 353 years as elementary and secondary teachers
● 91 years as social workers and counselors serving women, children, and families
● 57 years leading local nonprofit organizations
● 57 years working with survivors of domestic violence
● 91 years as nursing professionals
Beyond our careers, we volunteer in countless ways — from running food pantries and tutoring students to singing in the Greenbrier Valley Chorale and serving in our churches. The Marvel Center in Rupert was founded with the help and dedication of some of our members. When the 2016 flood devastated our region, our members volunteered tirelessly, including as part of the Greenbrier Valley Long Term Recovery Committee. Among others, we serve on boards and committees that support the elderly, children, and those with disabilities.
We are educators, caregivers, and community builders. We are your neighbors. We show up, not just at rallies, but every single day, to make Greenbrier County stronger, fairer, and kinder.
It’s time people stop defining us by what they hear on talk shows or see on social media. We define ourselves by our work, our service, and our love for this community.
