LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – According to a criminal complaint, on Oct. 19, an officer received a call from Greenbrier County 911 Dispatch regarding a disturbance in the vicinity of the Sweet Shoppe. When the officer arrived at the scene, other officers were talking to the suspect, later identified as Nathaniel Gunn.
Gunn was reportedly surrounded by several people. While the officer was trying to talk with Gunn, he allegedly started screaming and pushing people away from him. During this time, the officer made an attempt to place mechanical restraints on Gunn in a reported effort to de-escalate the situation. The officer was also trying to find out what had happened.
According to the criminal complaint, as the officer tried to detain Gunn, he became upset and started pulling away. Gunn was put into mechanical restraints and placed in an emergency vehicle. Allegedly, as the officer was trying to get Gunn into the emergency vehicle, Gunn refused to put his feet inside and was yelling and screaming at officers. The complaint notes that Gunn was reportedly under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
Once Gunn was secured in the emergency vehicle, the officer spoke with the victim. According to the complaint, the victim said Gunn had been kicked out of the Sweet Shoppe five times but kept coming back. The last time Gunn was escorted out, and allegedly struck the victim in the area of the face. The victim said she then took Gunn to the ground and held him down until someone called law enforcement. The victim did reportedly have visible cuts on her left knee and right elbow. When the victim was asked if she wanted to press charges, she reportedly said she didn’t.
During this period of time, a different officer spoke with another victim, who allegedly stated that Gunn threw a beer bottle at her, which hit her in the back of the shoulder.
At this point, Greenbrier County Dispatch reportedly informed the officers that Gunn had outstanding warrants in Greenbrier County for his arrest, including wanton endangerment with a firearm, person prohibited from owning a firearm, and concealed firearm. Gunn was then transported to the Lewisburg Police Department for processing.
After processing, during pat down, a blue baggie reportedly containing Marijuana was found in Gunn’s right front pocket, according to the criminal complaint.
During processing, Gunn allegedly kept being incensed towards the officer and wouldn’t sit on the booking bench. Gunn was handcuffed to the bench, reportedly to prevent him from walking away. After processing, the complaint states that Gunn was put back in the officer’s emergency vehicle, where he began banging his head on the glass of the window and kicking the back door. Gunn was placed in hobble restraints and transported to Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
At the time of publishing, Gunn is in Southern Regional Jail with bail set at $9,000.
