MULLENS- The Greenbrier West Cavaliers cross country team closed out their regular season Wednesday at the Coalfield Conference Championships, held at scenic Twin Falls State Park.

The rolling terrain and crisp October air made for an exciting and challenging race for all competitors.

Leading the Cavaliers once again was junior Jesse Walkup, who continued his strong season with another steady performance on the hilly course.

Walkup’s focus and consistency have made him one of the team’s most reliable runners all fall.

Senior Elijah Russell turned in another determined effort, powering through the final mile to finish strong for the Cavaliers.

Junior Dominic Mandeville followed with a solid showing, continuing his string of improvement late in the season.

Freshman Gabriel Keaton rounded out the squad, completing the race with his trademark good humor and a smile, proud to finish his first conference meet.

Head Coach Christian Walkup praised the group’s effort and attitude, noting the team’s steady improvement over the season.

“They’ve grown stronger each week,” Walkup said.

“Twin Falls is a tough course, and our runners handled it with grit.”

With the conference meet complete, Greenbrier West now turns its attention to the upcoming regional competition, where the Cavaliers hope to carry their momentum into the postseason.
