RONCEVERTE W.Va. (WVDN) – An old-fashioned Homecoming and Octoberfest will be held Oct. 26, in St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ronceverte, beginning with Sunday Mass at 11 a.m. and concluding with the traditional lunch in the social hall.
Special music will be provided by the church’s choir, the Hymms and Hers, under the direction of Mary Ford Thompson, and the luncheon is being provided by St. Catherine of Siena’s Altar and Rosary Society.
“We are inviting former parishioners at St. Catherine’s and its former missions, Chapel of Mary Immaculate near Williamsburg in Greenbrier County and Sacred Heart Mission in Pocahontas County, as well as former Catholics who have settled in the Greenbrier and Monroe County area in recent years, “a parish spokesman noted.
Ford also noted that anyone interested in investigating being a Catholic is also invited, as St. Catherine of Siena parish has been noted as a welcoming congregation.
Located on Walnut Street in Ronceverte, where it has served central Greenbrier and the northern 2/3rds of Monroe County in the same location since 1920, when the parish moved its church from a small wooden building in east Ronceverte.
Officiating at the 11 a.m. Mass will be Msgr. Keith Michael Quirk, pastor of St. Catherine of Siera and St. Charles Borromeo and the missions, St. John, the Evangelist, in Sweet Springs, and the Chapel of Mary Immaculate in Williamsburg. Other former pastors are invited to participate as well.
There is no cost for any of the activities, and no reservations are needed. As Msgr. Quirk recently said, “We are excited to offer these special occasions and encourage former members as well as present members of the parish to bring photos of the past parish events to share with the attendees.”
