New River CTC Offering Surface and Underground Mining Classes in Nicholas County

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. (WVDN) — New River Community and Technical College will offer both 40-Hour Surface Mining and 80-Hour Underground Mining courses, including First Aid and CPR training, beginning November 10 at the Nicholas County Campus.

Each course is designed to prepare students for the state certification exam, which will be administered at the state office following completion.

The 40-Hour Surface Mining class will run November 10–21, Monday through Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. The 80-Hour Underground Mining class will be held November 10–December 12, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Classes will be taught by Robert Summers, an experienced instructor with years of industry and teaching experience. Summers will provide students with valuable insight into safety practices and job expectations for those entering the mining field.

Tuition for the 80-Hour Underground Mining class is $350, and tuition for the 40-Hour Surface Mining class is $175.
