CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack today released the following statement in response to a proposal submitted by FirstEnergy Corp. to build 1.2 gigawatts of new natural gas-fired power generation in West Virginia. The company’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) was filed Wednesday with the West Virginia Public Service Commission.
“FirstEnergy’s proposal to build a new natural gas power plant in West Virginia is the kind of America-first energy strategy our state and nation need,” Treasurer Pack said. “It means good jobs, reliable and affordable power, and a strong commitment to using the resources we produce right here at home. I believe economic growth and job creation require a strong energy infrastructure, and West Virginia has always been—and will always be—an energy powerhouse for America.”
According to the proposal, submitted by Mon Power and Potomac Edison, subsidiaries of FirstEnergy, the companies will continue to deliver reliable, cost-effective power to West Virginia homes and businesses over the next decade.
