DURBIN W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation (GVEDC) is proud to announce the completion of a major reroute of the Allegheny Trail near the Durbin trailhead, improving access and safety for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.
Funded through a U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Lands Access Program Grant, the project strengthens outdoor recreation opportunities and supports local businesses across the Greenbrier Valley. Rugged Trails, LLC, led by Sam Skidmore, completed the upgrades in time for the fall season.
“This project demonstrates our commitment to supporting outdoor recreation as a key economic driver in the Greenbrier Valley,” said Ruthana Beezley, GVEDC’s Executive Director. “By improving access to the Allegheny Trail, we’re not only enhancing the experience for trail users but also supporting local businesses and creating new opportunities for economic growth.”
GVEDC partnered with the volunteer-led West Virginia Scenic Trails Association, which maintains the 311-mile Allegheny Trail.
“The completion of this project is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together,” said West Virginia Scenic Trails Association representative Doug Wood. “These improvements will make the Allegheny Trail more accessible and enjoyable for thousands of hikers each year.”
