ATHENS, W.Va. (WVDN) — Concord University invites area high school science scholars to compete in a regional Science Bowl competition on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.
This fast-paced, tournament-style event challenges students’ knowledge in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with questions covering subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, Earth science, energy, and mathematics.
Teams should register at https://apply.concord.edu/register/sciencebowl_nov08 by Friday, Oct. 31, 2025. Each team consists of four students and one alternate, with a teacher serving as mentor/coach.
The competition will be held on Concord’s Athens campus, with check-in beginning at 10 a.m. on the third floor of the Jean and Jerry L. Beasley Student Center, and competition rounds will take place in the Science Building 1:30-6 p.m.
In the morning, Concord Admissions will offer a Fall Open House and campus tours in conjunction with the event. , please register at https://apply.concord.edu/register/open_house25.
Food services will be available in the Libby Alvis Dining Hall on the second floor of the Student Center, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 4 to 5:30 p.m., and in the Subway, on the bottom level of the Student Center, 5-10 p.m.
Approximately 40 volunteers are needed to run this competition. They may include Concord University faculty, staff, and local community members willing to commit approximately three to four hours of time to assist in running the competitions. A few people who will need to remain on-site longer to help with later rounds of competition, as well as a few who can arrive earlier to help with team check-in. It would be helpful for volunteers to review the rules, volunteer roles, and training materials at the National Science Bowl® (NSB)… | U.S. DOE Office of Science (SC) prior to the competition.
