LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall invites the community to step onto the strip and discover the elegance, discipline, and excitement of fencing in a brand-new beginner series: The Art of Fencing, led by instructor Dr. Russell Amundson.
This six-class, three-week course runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 30 to October 16, 6:30–8 p.m. and is designed to welcome students ages 10 and older, regardless of prior experience. Through progressive exercises, participants will learn the fundamentals of fencing footwork, bladework, and strategy – building not only technical skill but also confidence, focus, and camaraderie.
Structured to accommodate learners of all ages and abilities, the series offers a supportive and energizing environment where students can explore the ancient art of fencing while becoming part of the Carnegie Fencing Club (CFC) – where Challenges are Faced Courageously! All equipment is provided, with size support available upon request.
Tuition is $225 for members and $250 for nonmembers, with a special student scholarship rate of just $100. Carnegie Hall is committed to making arts education accessible, and scholarships are available to ensure that cost is never a barrier to participation.
Whether you’re curious about fencing or ready to take your first lunge, this is the perfect opportunity to try something new, meet fellow learners, and engage in a sport that blends history, strategy, and athleticism.
To register or inquire about equipment sizing, visit carnegiehallwv.org or call (304) 645-7917. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
