BECKLEY W.Va. (WVDN) – Visit Southern West Virginia is excited to announce a new digital passport that helps travelers discover attractions and hidden gems around Hinton, Lewisburg and the rolling hills of West Virginia’s southern farmlands.

Explorers check in to a list of 25 locations throughout Summers, Monroe and Greenbrier Counties, on this gamified passport to earn points that they can then redeem for prizes. Locations include hiking trails, such as the Allegheny Trail and Greenbrier River Trail, historic sites, local businesses, and unique attractions like Sandstone Falls. The base prize is a sticker featuring landmarks and locations from the passport. The next level up is a collector’s coin featuring the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory or John Henry. The medium-level prize is a uniquely designed poster by Base Camp Printing Co. The top prize is a Visit Southern West Virginia tee.

This passport launches just in time to be part of a scenic fall road trip. While exploring the natural landscapes, Visit Southern West Virginia encourages passport holders to follow Leave No Trace Principles by disposing of waste properly, taking photos of landmarks and vegetation instead of marking them, staying on marked trails and leashing pets.

“The passport program has been a fun way for us to see visitors and locals alike interact with our region.  We are excited to see the third passport come online, representing three more of our counties just in time to encourage fall road trips!” said Lisa Strader, Director of Visit Southern West Virginia.
