CHARMCO- On Thursday, September 18, it became public knowledge that Greenbrier West star athlete Brilee Redden had made her college decision and will attend Carolina University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to continue her softball career.
Last season as a junior, Redden was a Class A first team all-state selection for the Cavaliers. She hit .526 with 10 home runs at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle, she posted a 2.25 ERA.
Picking a college is always a tough decision, but for Redden, the values at the school played the biggest role in hers.
“I chose Carolina U mainly because I felt like I fit in there,” Redden said.
“It is a small campus and more importantly, they have good values. It is a school and softball team fully fueled by Christ.”
The senior is happy to get her decision out of the way but understands the benefits in waiting also. However, she can now focus on her upcoming 2026 season with no extra pressure.
“I don’t think it is a bad thing waiting to commit later so you can explore all of your options, but it takes a lot of pressure off of a student athlete choosing a school early on.
Once she arrives on campus for that first year, Redden hopes to just have your typical college lifestyle.
“My goals once I get there are to stay on top of my schoolwork, contribute to my team, and make lots of new friends and get some great experiences,” she said.
Before getting to Winston-Salem though, Redden has some unfinished business for Greenbrier West.
“This upcoming season, I hope to accomplish another run at the state title, being a great team leader, and hopefully setting some more records,” Redden concluded.
