WHEELING, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack visited the Northern Panhandle this week where he presented unclaimed property checks valued at over $35,000 to The Health Plan, the City of New Martinsville and the New Martinsville Public Library.
“My Office is thrilled to reunite these lost unclaimed property funds with the rightful owners,” Treasurer Pack said. “The money came from stales dated checks, miscellaneous checks and credit balances, and will now be used to better serve their communities. Getting this money back to The Health Plan, the City of New Martinsville and the New Martinsville Public Library will only strengthen their efforts to make a positive impact on the residents they serve.”
Treasurer Pack was in Wheeling on Wednesday, where he presented a check worth $32,571.84 to The Health Plan CEO Jeff Knight.
“We are grateful to Treasurer Pack and his team for their diligence in returning unclaimed property to the correct holders,” Knight said. “Because we are a nonprofit organization, The Health Plan will be able to reinvest these dollars directly back into West Virginia communities through wellness programs and health-focused initiatives.”
On Thursday, Treasurer Pack presented a check worth $978.91 to New Martinsville City Recorder Kim Whiteman.
“This money will help supplement our city operations,” Whiteman said. “In the world today, every penny counts, and we are thankful to Mr. Pack and the West Virginia Treasury for finding this money, and getting it back to New Martinsville.”
Treasurer Pack also presented a check valued at $2,000 to New Martinsville Public Library Director Sarah Jackson.
“To receive this amount is a total blessing. In this day in age, funding is difficult to come by, so every little bit helps,” Jackson said. “In competition with the digital age, it makes it even harder for libraries to impact the community. This money will go towards programs that will encourage community members to utilize the resources available for them here at the library. We excited for the next chapter.”
Treasurer Pack recently announced his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned more than $1.2 million to individuals, businesses and organizations in West Virginia during the month of August.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $473 million worth of listings in its database.
